Things to Know
Lash Extension FAQ’s
What are eyelash extensions?
Eyelash extensions are a series of carefully selected lashes attached individually to your natural set. We use a technique that lengthens and adds volume, curl, and dimension to each individual lash. Eyelash extensions can be glamorous, they can be intense, they can be fun – it all depends on the style you select with our qualified staff! We apply our extensions lash-by-lash for the most beautiful results, and the process takes about 90 minutes to complete on your first visit. So the first time you come in, come ready to relax.
How are eyelash extensions applied?
Our eyelash extensions are applied individually, one by one, 1 mm away from the eyelid, never directly on the skin, to your natural eyelashes using a latex free, formaldehyde-free adhesive. Lash extensions come in different lengths and thicknesses. Results can vary from very subtle and natural to very noticeable and dramatic.
How long does the procedure take?
The procedure can take anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a forty minutes depending on the service received. Your eyes will be closed for the entire duration of the eyelash application.
What are your lashes made of?
Synthetic Mink. These are the most popular extensions used by lash artists today. These man made, poly fiber lashes come in a variety of lengths, diameters and curls, have good flexibility and remain somewhat natural looking depending on the length. They’re designed to imitate real mink fur, the curl is permanent and they are low maintenance. No need to curl or put mascara on these type of extensions. The Faux Mink lashes are a little more bold, slightly glossier than the Silk and Mink. Because of their variety of size and length they’re great for customizing different looks for each client.
How do you remove eyelash extensions?
Removals are done at the salon by the lash artist. Do not attempt to remove the lash extensions yourself, it is best to schedule an appointment to have them professionally removed with a special removing solvent. You may also wait for your natural lash cycle to complete and have the extensions fall off naturally.
I wear contacts, may I wear them during the procedure?
We recommend removing your contact lenses before lash application. Eyes may feel dry and irritated with contact lenses kept in during lash application since your eyes must be kept closed for the entirety of the appointment (1.5 hour).
Can I use an eyelash curler to curl my lash extensions?
No, an eyelash curler will break the bond on your extensions and will damage your natural eyelashes.
How long do they last?
These babies can last 2 months if you treat them with a little TLC, but to keep them at their most fabulous we suggest that you come in about once a month (every 2-3 weeks for maximum awesomeness!). That way you’ll never be without 75% of your lashes, and we can just give you a little plumping up. That’ll always take less time than the original application.
Will it hurt?
Not at all! We make sure that everything is done just as it should be – which means zero pain for you! If you’ve ever experienced pain getting eyelash extensions, something wasn’t right with the service. In fact, most of our clients fall asleep.
What kind of glue do you use?
Lash Bomb Bombshell Sensitive Adhesive
Do they damage your natural lashes?
The truth is that, when applied properly, eyelash extensions are actually less damaging to your natural lashes than constant mechanical curling and daily applications of mascara. Some of our clients even find that their natural lashes get longer and stronger when they have the extensions because they don’t have to fuss with them!
Can I wear eye make up?
Definitely! Just ditch the traditional mascara, since its ingredients break down the glue!
Can I wear mascara?
For those of us that absolutely cannot live without the black stuff, we have a special mascara that is formulated to work with extensions instead of against them. Most of the time, though, our clients just forget mascara ever existed after they get extensions!
Can I get them wet?
This is important: after 48 hours, yes, absolutely. But everything is still delicate for those first 24 hours.
Can I swim, shower, exercise, or visit a spa while wearing Eyelash Extensions?
Yes – but wait 24 hours! The bonding agent we use is waterproof, so you can swim, sweat, shower to your heart’s content.
How do I take care of them?
It’s down to common sense and just a couple of rules. The first rule you’ll know by now if you’ve read through this FAQ so far: DO NOT get them wet in the first 48 hours! The second rule is to use oil-free products around your lash-line – be particularly sure to use an oil-free eye makeup remover. Otherwise, it’s pretty much down to leaving them in peace: be sure not to rub or pull on them, and avoid those mechanical curlers (because they pull!). Just be gentle like you would with all beautiful things.
I love them. How do I keep them up?
Because our extensions are bonded to your natural lashes, they will fall out along with your natural lashes over the course of several weeks. Keep them pristine by coming in for a fill every 2-3 weeks.
Being prepared for lash extensions is important. This appointment requires you – the client – to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. Failure to do so may result in cancellation of the appointment – and CleanSpa has the discretion to charge for the full cost of service.
